Thorp Arch is a small affluent village and civil parish near Wetherby, West Yorkshire, England. The village comes under the City of Leeds metropolitan borough. The village is set on the River Wharfe and has a primary school and public house. The village is in the LS23 Wetherby postcode area and has a Wetherby dialling code (01937). Historically the parish of Thorp Arch was not in any of the Ridings of Yorkshire but in the Ainsty, a separate division. It has a population of 1,123.〔(【引用サイトリンク】publisher=Office for National Statistics )〕 The village is situated between the villages of Walton and Boston Spa. It is dwarfed by the adjacent Thorp Arch Trading Estate, Wealstun Prison, and in the shadow of the main buildings of the British Library. The village once had a railway station (situated adjacent to the trading estate) on the Harrogate to Church Fenton line. Thorp Arch is also home to Leeds United's training ground and academy based on Walton Road. This facility was opened in 1990 to replace a more spartan facility adjacent to the club's Elland Road football stadium in Leeds. In 2010, the owner of the Segway company, Jimi Heselden died at Thorp Arch after the Segway he was riding plummeted off a cliff.
